To write, you will need a few things...

Despite how obvious some of these items will seem, it is surprising how many people do not know you will require them.

The first thing you will need is: An Idea.

An idea can come in many ways. They will not be discussed here. You may check the left again to learn how to get an idea, and return to this page when you are ready to do something with an idea you have had.

Next, you should have something to record your idea with. This can be one of many things.

A pencil/pen and paper would be very good.

A computer with a word processing programme would work just as well. Make sure to have disks to save your work on.

Or, if you are adventurous, you could try to use a type writer. Remember: once you make a mistake on one of these, you can not cross it out or erase it. You must start the page over.

Also, it may be good to have a dictionary and/or thesaurus if you need help with spelling or coming up with creative synonyms.

Besides such obvious things, there are also some lesser known items you should have prepared before you begin.

One of these is a good, caffeinated beverage. A favourite of many writers is coffee. This drink provides both an energy boost, and some extra warmth to your trembling, cold body as you sit up all night in the damp basement trying to figure out how to better arrange a single sentence you have been obsessing over for the past week. Or, if you do not like coffee, soda or tea would work as well. For a fun little kick, try a new energy drink. Most of these not only taste like shite, but make you feel as if your heart is going to jump out of your chest any moment. (For a better tasting energy drink, check the food and drink link.)

Another very convenient thing to aquire is a distraction. This can be a computer game, music, a television show, or just something to stare at when you feel you should let your mind wander. (Again, check link at side.)

And, lastly, the writer should have a good loss of common sense. You will need to convince yourself that three nights withouth sleep is perfectly fine, that coffee and dry cereal are a healthy meal, and that not washing for almost a week is acceptable.

You now know the basic things you will need to begin writing. Now, let me further your education.

I have nothing else to say here, but the site builder is making me type something in this space.
